To drink or not to drink?

Culture . Food . Student life . Travel . Uncategorized

I often found myself asking this question during my time here in Munich. To drink or not to drink? Most of the time I ended up drinking so much beer that I almost forgot it is okay to so “no” to a beer once in a while.

Ofcourse drinking was not the most important factor of my time here in Munich. The most important thing for me here in Germany was the overall experience. Moving to a big foreign city, meeting new people, seeing and learning new things. And unfortunately for my liver, most of these things went hand in hand with a beer or two. I met a lot of new people at erasmus party’s where you can obviously drink a beer or two. A well deserved break during a city trip, drinking a nice cold beer. Cooking some foreign food with new friends drinking the right liquor. And yes I know, I did not have to drink on all these occasions, but who am I to say no to a typical German culture thing.

Did you know beer is by far the most popular drink here in Germany? Germany is also the biggest beer producing country in Europe and number 3 in the world. Germans are also in the top 3 when it comes down to consuming beer, 107 litre per person. All of a sudden I am wondering how much beers I consumed during my time here in Munich.

During my bike rides (yes I bought a bike) to university I came across the Englischer Garten and beautiful landscapes and in my last blog post I wrote about the lack of snow. I can stop complaining now as it is snowing heavily and I can see a white wonderland when I look outside my window. This completes my wishlist of my time here in Munich.

The most special event that I experienced is Oktoberfest. I know it is easy to say this but it is true. Never have I ever seen such a big festival, with so many different people, and so many beers. I will return to my home country and tell everyone about my time in Munich. About my time in the Hofbräu-Festzelt and the Augustiner Festhalle.

Munich, I will definitely come back, but for now I say: auf wiedersehen.
