My stay in Munich at LMU
Authors . Culture . Student life . Travel . UncategorizedI remember my first day in LMU as if it were yesterday. It was October, I didn’t knew anyone and I had a mixture of feelings between nervousness and excitement before getting into my first class. Today is 6th of August and after two very different semesters here the idea of going back home provokes me other kind of feelings, like emotion and some sadness.
In this post I would talk a little bit about the experiences I had, on different fields, during my stay in Munich at LMU.
Classes
I had different kind of experiences with my classes in LMU and the first one wasn’t one of the good ones at all. I had to prepare a 4 hour long presentation with five classmates that of course I didn’t knew. Can you imagine having to explain a theory about the power of persuasion of narratives, in front of a class of 25 students, in a language that you don’t speak regularly since you were 11 years old, during 30 minutes!? That was the first work that I needed to do in LMU and definitely the most challenging for me this year. Thanks god the rest of the classes were much softer and gave me the opportunity to learn a lot, visit interesting places and know some very nice german students, who were always very kind with me and eager to help.
University Life
The university life that I had here was kind of very particular. As I didn’t leave in any student dorm and my faculty is a little bit separated from the other faculties, I had to look for the plans and so on. The “bad” side of it was that at the beginning I had to make an effort with knowing people (find out where and when the parties are, introduce myself to the people and so on…) and the “good” thing is that my relationships in my uni life depended just on me. No one was going to annoy me but no one was going to knock at my door and tell me that there is a party in the 5th floor or things like that. I don’t know if it would have been better for me to live in one of those dorms but what I know is that I had an extraordinary time during those semesters, knowing a lot of interesting people, making lots of friends and having a lot of fun.
Experience with the german culture
My experience with the german culture was really really good. My family has always had a link with Germany due to my german roots so although I consider myself 100% spanish, I knew the culture already and knew somehow what to expect. It is true that in the other hand, was my first contact with Bavarian culture which was something new for me as the Bavarians have their own particular way of being and living. It was definitely something special get to know some of their expressions like “Servus” or enjoy their food and fests. I couldn’t go to the worldwide known Oktoberfest but I had the opportunity to visit the Frühlingsfest which is the same concept but in made in spring and without so many tourists. The only thing that I didn’t really like was that on Sundays literally everything closes and that the U-Bahn doesn’t work for the whole night during the weekends. It was always a thing getting back home after 1:30…
Travels
I had the opportunity to visit a lot of different and amazing places like: Berlin, Salzburg, Augsburg, Regensburg… during my stay in Germany. From the places I’ve visited Berlin and Salzburg were something special although Regensburg was probably the one that surprised me the most. I didn’t really expect something special in it and I discovered a beautiful city with a wonderful environment next to the Donau river.
My stay in Munich at LMU was definitely one of the best decisions I’ve taken in my whole life due to all the experiences with extraordinary people that I’m gonna take with me.
