From Russia with love
AuthorsHi! My name is Alexandra, but you call me Sasha, you might get confused, because it sounds completely different. In Russia it is the same name as you have Alex for Alexandra.
I’m an exchange student from Russia, Saint-Petersburg. I’m 23 years old, at my hometown university I’m doing the second year of master’s degree. I’m studying in the main university of Saint-Petersburg – «Saint-Petersburg State University», it was founded in 1724 by Peter the Great as the first university in Russia. My home department is «School of journalism and mass communication», my profile is «Media-communication».
In my opinion, Saint-Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. We have great history and culture. Also, we are famous for our white nights in early summer, it is when during the night it’s never dark. And one more very extraordinary thing in our city are the «Raising bridges». It’s when all big bridges in the city are raised to let the ships pass through the city. It’s very beautiful and romantic. But it’s very funny when you have plans on one side of the city, then you have to keep on time very strictly or you get stuck on the wrong side for the whole night till the bridges open back.
I was born in Spain, Murcia but my language is Russian. I was 2 years old when my family came back to Russia. My parents lived in Spain for about 7 years after moving from Russia during a very difficult period for our country. I’m talking about the time after The Fall of The Soviet Union. It was a very challenging and dangerous time, the shops were empty, a small number of people lived well then. My grandparent told me about how they lived, the supply of products to the shops were very rare, and you should have stayed in line for hours to buy food. I’m very thankful that I didn’t have to grow up in such difficult conditions.
Why I choose Munich? Last autumn I had a little trip in Europe. First of all, I visited Neuschwanstein Castle, then I had a day in Munich and then I went to Vienna.
During my time in Munich I was walking around the city centre and close to LUDWIGSTRASSE I saw a place with a great atmosphere and a lot of nice young people. My first thought was that it is a university, so I checked it on google and I was right it was «LMU Munich». I was so excited of my trip to Munich, because people, culture and a very warm feeling after staying in the city even for such a short time made me choose Munich for exchange program.
From the time studying on the exchange program I’m expecting to get the maximum out of listening to and learning from the LMU teachers, advance my knowledge in Media-communication sciences, meet new friends and upper my language skills.
Unfortunately, I have to build my plans considering corona. I was planning to come to Munich and spend there the whole semester. Now my near future plans are to study hard so that in 2021 I can begin to work. Of course, preparing towards New Years and Christmas is also in my plans
