Introducing Me

Germany . Student life . Travel

Hello!,

My name is Sophie, I’m 21 years old and I’m from Ireland, an island with a beautiful country side but with very unpredictable weather! I currently study International Business at Maynooth University. But I actually come from a small village called Moone in County Kildare, where life is pretty quiet.

It’s a peaceful village where there is not a lot around, just a church, a park, and a small café. We usually have to drive to get anywhere since it’s not really walkable, so its definitely a new experience having public transport available on my doorstep to take me almost anywhere! Irish is mandatory in school, so I know some of it, but I wouldn’t call myself fluent as we mostly speak English apart from some Gaeltacht areas along the west of Ireland where the Irish language is kept alive. I also learned a little French in school, but I definitely was not the best at it!

I chose to study in Munich as I really wanted to experience more cultures and to travel more by train, as it is not so easy to do from Ireland. I feel that Munich is the perfect place for that as it is near the border of Switzerland, Austria, France, Czech Republic and is very close to Italy.

This is my second semester in Munich, and I have really enjoyed it so far! In the winter semester, I explored the city and surroundings, and now with the warmer weather (eventually!!), I’m even more excited to see so much more. I really enjoyed the Christmas markets both here in Munich and in Salzburg.  I also love how close Munich is to the Alps, as it is not something you get to see every day, definitely not back in Ireland anyways! I also had the amazing experience of visiting Strasbourg, Budapest, Schloss Neuschwanstein, and Passau!

In my final few months here in Munich I plan to visit more of the amazing surrounding areas such as the lakes and mountains, in particular Lake Eibsee. As well as hopefully getting to visit some more new countries. I also plan to just take it all in and enjoy it while I can as its not everyday you get to wake up to go walk around the beautiful Olympic Park, explore Marienplatz or have a picnic in the English Garden, as getting the opportunity to study abroad is a once in a lifetime experience and I am really enjoying it so far.
