New Chapter, New Experiences

Authors

Hello everyone! I’m Alba and I’m 19 years old. I know, I’m the youngest one, but I’ll be turning 20 very soon.

I come from the capital of Spain, Madrid, a beautiful city with incredible places, a rich culture and, of course, great weather, as you all probably know. Madrid is not only a city full of life, but also a very welcoming place. Places such as El Retiro Park, Sol, the Temple of Debod and Plaza Mayor will make you feel like you are in paradise, a place you will never want to leave.

I study a double degree in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication there. I have always felt that writing is the best way for me to express my ideas, but also the best way to reflect who I am. And now, I have decided to continue doing so abroad.

Why Munich? Well, although Madrid is my favourite place in the world, I have always loved travelling and discovering new places. Apart from having a different language and culture, Germany is one of the countries I am most interested in living in, and it is also very well connected to other countries, making it easy to travel. And since I am someone who is used to city life, being in the city centre and being surrounded by people, what better place could there be than Munich?

I have been in the city for about a month, and during this time, I have been able to enjoy the warmth of this place — unfortunately, not the weather, but rather its beautiful corners, such as the English Garden, Marienplatz and Nymphenburg Palace. However, I have not limited myself to exploring Munich. I have also taken the opportunity to visit other places in Germany and even other countries, such as Austria and the Czech Republic, with many more places still to come.

My expectations for this semester abroad are to learn about different ways of life, socialise with people from all over the world, discover what communication is like in Munich and how important it is, and improve my writing skills and other abilities that are necessary to become a good journalist.

Over the next three months, I hope to have almost completely adapted to Munich and its people. I also hope to have returned home for Christmas to see my family and enjoy this very special time of year, which I look forward to every year as if I were a little girl again. Above all, what I would be most excited about is completing my travel bucket list because, as I said before, I love discovering the world, and I would like to return home full of new experiences and stories to tell.
