From Seoul to Munich
Authors . Student LifeIntroduction
Hi! My name is Choi Hyoju (Just call me Ju). I’m a 22-year-old exchange student at Yonsei University from Korea. I am studying Design and Communication at Korea. I majored in painting at high school, so I chose Design as my first major. I always enjoyed watching investigative reporting programs, so I wanted to create them myself, I started working at the school broadcasting station(YBS). It was more interesting than I had expected, so I chose Communication as my second major.
My Experience

I worked as a video producer at YBS. I was head of the video department, leading the planning and production of various programs. I broadcast school issue on a news program, produced investigative reports about lookism, and participated in live sports broadcasts with other universities(Korea University – we called Yeon-Ko Jeon).
Why Munich?

Through this process, I want to step out of the familiar Korean environment and capture a new culture on screen. So I looked into exchange programs, and the places I could go to were Munich in Germany, Paris in France, Madrid in Italy, and London in the United Kingdom. I’m little introverted, so I thought it would be better to be somewhere where I could be with close, and since I have a boyfriend in Salzburg, I chose nearby Munich, Germany. After applying to LMU and learning more, I found out LMU is a very good school! I don’t regret my choice. Since the language and culture in Munich are different from Korea’s, I want to broaden my perspective in this environment.
Life Beyond University

Since I majored in painting in high school, drawing is my hobby. Yesterday, I visited an art supply store in Munich! Thanks to buying many art supplies, I’m happy that I can paint in Munich as well. I’m a bit easily distracted (haha), so I like watching programs while drawing, and the one I watch and enjoy the most is Korean investigative journalism show “Unanswered Questions.” I’m planning to go to Olympia Park and paint while taking in the scenery!
Looking Ahead
I am looking forward to experiencing Munich’s media environment through the field study in this Professional Communication in Munich class. I also want to learn about famous social issues and cultures of different countries by interacting with students from other countries. I believe this will be a helpful to the programs I create in my future. While in Munich, I want to make at least three videos. It would be great if I could upload it to a My YouTube channel. I look forward to working with you!
