New life in Munich
AuthorsHi, my name is Ayoung Kim. I’m 21 years old and from South Korea. I’m majoring in Chinese Language and Culture, and my minor is Media Communication.
You might find it a little strange that I’m studying in Germany as an exchange student when my major is Chinese Language and Culture. I mean, wouldn’t it make more sense to go to China to learn about Chinese language and culture? But that’s exactly why I wanted to come to a country other than China! Since I was already studying Chinese, I thought it would be more interesting to explore a different field in a completely different environment.
That’s why I chose to study Media Communication as an exchange student in Germany. Also, I chose Media Communication as my minor because I enjoy every step of making videos, from watching and filming to editing and planning. Most of the Media Communication classes at my home university were lecture-based, so I didn’t have many opportunities to gain practical experience or interact with other students. That’s why I’m really looking forward to taking classes at LMU!
I never imagined that I would end up coming to Germany as an exchange student. I had originally considered going to another country, but somehow, I ended up in Munich! I chose Munich because I thought it would be a great place to study. I had heard that LMU was a good university and that Munich was a nice city to live in. But after arriving here, I liked it even more than I expected. The English Garden is especially beautiful, and I definitely want to have a picnic there next summer!
Another great thing about living in Munich is how easy it is to travel to other European countries. I recently visited Berlin and had a wonderful time there. I explored various museums and art galleries and even went to a piano recital by the Berlin Philharmonic. I had never imagined that I would have the chance to attend such a performance during my trip to Berlin, so I was really happy to have this kind of experience as an exchange student in Germany.
I’m excited to see what new experiences await me during my exchange, and I’m especially looking forward to what I can learn and experience at LMU!
