Hi Munich! Yanyin’s HERE!

Authors . Student life

Hello everyone!👋

I’m Yanyin, a master’s student at Fudan University in Shanghai, China, majoring in Communication Science (with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism). This is my first time studying abroad, and I’m thrilled to be doing it here in Munich.

I’ve been in Munich for a month now, and I’m still in excitement about this beautiful city! I was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province (near Shanghai)—a classic Chinese “water town”. In my opinion, Hangzhou shares a similar spirit with Munich: it strikes the perfect balance between city lives and serene natural landscapes. Hangzhou is renowned for its West Lake and offers many stunning mountains for hiking. That’s why I feel so at home here! I’m already planning several hikes and weekend getaways around the area.

I’m a huge sports enthusiast, covering everything from traditional sports to e-sports. For fun, I follow various competitions including badminton, gymnastics, football, F1, and League of Legends. I’m also a big fan of swimming—both watching and playing! One of my biggest dreams during this exchange is to catch a Bayern Munich match in person! Before coming here, I interned as a sports journalist, which was an incredibly rewarding experience.

Over the next three months, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of Munich’s media landscape. Germany’s news ecosystem is quite different from China’s, so I’m curious to see how journalism functions here. I’m also particularly interested in the extent to which AI has been integrated into German newsrooms.

Of course, beyond my studies, I want to explore as much of Europe as possible! This is a rare and precious opportunity for an Asian student (at least it is for me). I’m here to see and experience new things—after all, it’s never too late for a new beginning!😎
