Mountains, Munich and everything in between
AuthorsHi there! My name is Pernille, I’m 23 years old and from Oslo, Norway. Back home I’m studying media and communication at the University of Oslo, where I already have completed my bachelor thesis. So, this exchange semester at LMU is actually the final part om my bachelor’s degree, which makes it extra exciting.
I have always liked the idea of living abroad, having the chance to meet new people from all over the world. A lot of my friends has already either taken their bachelor’s degree abroad or had an exchange year abroad, and it inspired me to do the same. Since I was approaching the end of my degree, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to do so, before figuring out what to do next. And I think as many other, I was split on my decision on where to go. People from my class were so sure on their pick, they all wanted to go to Italy. Me being the only one either wanted to go to Zurich or Munich. I was very back and forth on my desicion, but in the end, I ended up with coming here to Munich.
So, why Munich? One of the main reasons I chose Munich was its location close to the alps. I really enjoy going snowboarding, and didn’t want to leave it back home, so the idea of living just a short trip away from some amazing ski resorts was obviously a big plus. I also have some friends living in Innsbruck that I don’t get to see too often, and also having the chance to hang out with them more is also a plus. Besides the obvious, I had a friend on exchange here at LMU last winter and he could not be more satisfied with his stay here. He would not stop talking about it, so I was very much influenced by him as well. When it comes to my expectations for the semester, I think the biggest on is simply to make the most out of my stay here. I of course hope to learn something and maybe learn something new, but I also think studying abroad is much more than attending lectures and completing assignments.
As for my plans for the next three months, I’m of course gong to Innsbruck more than once. The one trip that is already planned is in the end of November to celebrate my friend’s and my birthday. While we are there, we are also going to watch the Innsbruck Big Air World Cup for freeski and snowboard, that our up-and-coming friend is going to participate in, so I’m really excited for this trip. Other than that, I’m looking forward to experiencing the Christmas markets her in Germany, and I have heard great things about Vienna’s Christmas market as well so might just have a short visit over there too.
Overall, I’m really excited about the months ahead. I hope and really think that this semester will be a memorable way to finish my bachelor’s degree, from getting to know Munich to visiting the alps and everything in between. I’m gonna make the most out of it, talk to you later!
