Is München best choice of my life?

Authors

Who I am

Hello. I am Seifu Ikeda from Japan. I know people find it hard to pronounce name from other country. My name is just like “safe” with additional ”u” sound, I reckon. I studied British literature and poetry in Kyoto, Japan. I have spent almost my entire life in Japan. I was born in Tokyo, I was raised in Hokkaido, Wakayama, and Osaka. I had lived in Osaka for more than 10 years before I moved to Munich. My family moved quite a lot because of the company my father worked, which is probably not common in Europe culture.

Why I decided to do exchange in München

I am British literature student and last year I went to York University in England for short program of history and culture. I’ve learnt the architecture and language there is based on various European culture. Roman empire, Viking, French, etc.

Since then, I had wanted to see history and architecture of Europe, especially in Germany. Some castles and  cathedral in Germany that I knew was main reason for this. Also, I thought München is the best place to see traditional culture and the best city to live  when I see it online. The city has beautiful culture like Oktoberfest, Christmas market, and the strongest football team.

Now I confirm here is the best place to see beautiful architecture and culture, but it is expensive than other cities in Germany for sure. It is fine because to live somewhere with beautiful architecture is part of my dream. It is totally worth it.

What I expect to do for exchange

I am here to understand other people, culture, and food. My home country Japan is island surrounded by ocean. Majority of people don’t even have passport because the land is isolated. Germany is a member of EU and many people live here from other EU countries and other part of the world. It’s much easier here to know other people, their culture, and thier food than my country.

I’ve already met many exchange students and also regular students from other countries. To know others is interesting.

My special plan for the next 3 months

I miss Oktoberfest vibe but Christmas market is also something special. I am excited to see it in Munich. I will visit other city during Christmas season too. We have small Christmas market in my country Japan and it’s German style. Still it is not popular. I am happy to be here to see real Christmas market. Before this special event, I am planning to visit Köln. Köln Cathedral is my dream place, and I’ve been dreaming of this place for a long time. From here, it’s easy to visit other country too. I will visit England again during the end of year and new year. I am excited to visit places that I’ve never been before. I‘ve never been to country in Europe before I moved to Germany.
