What is in a name…
Authors . UncategorizedThis time last year, I discovered that Munich had two names.
I had just submitted my Erasmus paperwork, and was discussing the exciting feeling with an Erasmus student from Sweden. He asked me where I had picked to study:
“Munich!”
“What, where is that?”
“Hmm, Stefan I think you’ll find it’s the second biggest city in Germany, Oktoberfest, Bratwurst…?”
“Oh you mean München?”
“No, I don’t. Where is that?”
This state of confusion followed me till September when I arrived in München (Munich) and hasn’t really left since. Whether I am lost in some Bavarian town after getting off the train a little to early or trying to enter a biergarten through the exit, my time in Germany so far has taught me lots of things.
Why did I end up in Munich? I always wanted to study abroad, and I love nothing more than an adventure with the opportunity to meet new people and explore the world a little more. The culture in Germany intrigued me, the opportunity to travel around the gorgeous surrounding areas led me to choose Munich.
As I am studying for two semesters, I hope to have an unforgettable time meeting friends from all over the world, discover more about different ways of life and also develop my German skills. I love sharing experiences with people, which is maybe why I enjoy studying the science of communication.
I am originally from the second smallest city in England, it is called Wells. I have always wanted to broaden my horizons and see the rest of the world. When I was 10 years old, my family relocated to Spain for a year. I moved to Birmingham to study International Business with Communications three years ago, and I would like to live abroad again when I am older.
Ever since that day of discovering Munich had two names, my whole journey has been a great adventure and I can’t wait to discover what the rest of the year holds for me. Now I know Munich has two names, you can know my name – nice to meet you, my name is Lucy.
