A little something about me

Hi,

My name is Mitchell. I’m a 24 year old student (turning 25 next week) at University of Applied Sciences Utrecht in The Netherlands. I come from a little town called IJsselstein, in which roughly 35000 people live. I’ve spent most of my life there, but recently I’ve been living in Utrecht. I study International Communication & Media, which I have chosen because of my interest in the vast amount of different media platforms such as social media, gaming and television. The fact that I can learn communication skills on a business as well as a social level plus the fact that all my courses are in English were enough reasons for me to have chosen this study.

The reason I have chosen to study in Munich was simply because the culture is not that far off from Dutch culture and the surrounding area is full of beautiful scenery such as mountains and lakes. I also partially chose this city as my first chose because I wanted to go with a friend and we had to choose a location that appealed to us both. I follow half my courses at IFKW and some other courses at other faculties like Das Politisches System Deutschlands and History of the English language.

I find it hard to say what my hopes are for this semester. Obviously I want/need to pass all my courses, but apart from that, I just hope to have a good time. So far it’s going well, as I’ve made a lot of new friends already.

One of my biggest passions is drum and bass music and everything related to it such as festivals and parties. The beauty of the genre lies in it’s diversity. It can incorporate almost any kind of music since the genre itself is purely based on tempo and rhythm. Anything from jazz to hardcore and funk to metal can find it’s way into drum and bass. Currently I have been to drum and bass events in 7 different countries, ranging from big festivals for up to 25000 people to small scale parties for only 500 people. I’d say roughly 95% of my current friends are fans as well. Other music genres I thoroughly enjoy are Hiphop, UK Garage, Hardcore.

Other things I enjoy are sports, games and competitiveness. I like playing as much as I like to watch top level sports or gamers. I can easily spend hours watching any sport or high level tournaments. That’s part of the reason that I have the (side)job that I have too. I work as a Checker & Live Operator at Gracenote Sports. We are part of one of the biggest data companies in the world. In simple words, my job is to enter sports data as it happens. I basically get to watch football matches and I have to enter things like shots, fouls, cards etc. in the computer. This gets sent to big sports channels, websites and even Teletext pages from ZDF for instance. We also send this data to some of the bigger gambling offices around the world (mostly China).
