Strolling around the Englisher Garten
City lifeStarting writing something is the most difficult part. After an hour in front of my computer wondering how I was going to start this text, I decided to take a break and go for a walk in the English Garden behind my building. The weather was gloomy and cold, a perfect fall afternoon you wish to spend in your bed watching a movie with a hot chocolate. I walked in the park, I was completely alone. The trees were wearing their orange and golden robe and the leaves already started to fall. I was in the perfect autumn scene.
I was going deeper into these tree groves alongside of a small river running in the park, listening to the sound of the water breaking the silence of the nature. The more I walked the more I got lost in my thoughts wondering about the beauty of this scenery. I was trying to imagine the three other seasons in this place, what was the winter going to look like, or spring. I was taking pictures with an old camera my father gave me before I came to Munich, thinking that I would love to have memories of the beauty of fall in this place.
Still alone I was walking in the direction of the city centre through the English Garden. I met some joggers, cyclists, lovers, people playing with their dogs, but I was alone with my thoughts most of the time. The colours of nature made me so happy, fall is a time of the year I particularly love, and I started wondering about the autumn spleen. How can people feel so nostalgic and almost depressed in front of such a sight? I crossed a bridge above the road and suddenly arrived on the edge of a lake. Geese, ducks and swans were quietly floating on the water. I sat on a bench and watched their water ballet, it was soothing.
When I continued my path, I felt the change of atmosphere in the garden. The closer I went to the city centre, the more alive was the garden. More and more people were walking or cycling here. Even few courageous people were having a glass of beer at the Chinese Tower. I climbed up to the Monopteros to have a view of this end of autumn afternoon from up there. There were some children sitting and laughing here, probably just coming out of school. I continued to walk towards the city and civilisation. I saw many people walking with their children after school or going back home after a day of work. I wondered how nice it was to cross such a beautiful place to go home after work.
I walk until the Eisabch wave where I saw two surfers practicing. I think they were or the most courageous people in the city or the most passionate ones because the weather was freezing. I watched them for twenty minutes and then I entered in the city. My walk was over, and I went back home with the subway, my head filled with images of the golden autumn nature. On my way I picked colourful leaves with whom I made a bouquet to add colour to my room. Once back home I sat in front of my computer and started to write, in front of me the sky offering one of the most beautiful sunset.
