Almost the Ultimate Christmas Vibe
City life . Culture . UncategorizedFinally, it is December. By far the best month of the year. I like the cold, dark holiday joys. The christmas lights, the decorations, the glühwein, the endless christmas songs on the radio and especially; the christmas markets here in Munich!
Back in The Netherlands, ofcourse we celebrate christmas. We do all the same things that Germans do here in Munich, but one thing we do not have (especially on this scale) is the amount of christmas markets here. I am very lucky to live in the city centre so I am overwhelmed with the christmas vibes.
The very cosy markets on Marienplatz plus the fact that my girlfriend came over to visit me resulted in almost the ultimate christmas vibe. The one thing missing to make it complete for me is the snow. I was hoping to get a beautiful white landscape here before I fly back home for the holidays, but according to the meteorologists, it does not look like it is coming very soon.
One thing that I loved about the markets here and the culture that comes with it is the amount of effort people take to make/sell their products. I saw handmade candles, christmas tree adornments, little angels made from wood, different types of glühwein, all types of food, and the list goes on. I bought this cutting board from this lovely lady and her husband. The husband was a craftsman who engraved text into the cutting board live on the spot for you.
The christmas culture is alive and booming here in Munich. I like it very much. If you compare it to the christmas spirit in The Netherlands, I would say that the christmas spirit is more alive here in Munich. Maybe that is because the dutchies have another holiday in December called Sinterklaas. Some families choose to celebrate only Sinterklaas or only christmas.
I will always be a christmas guy. I believe in the magic of christmas.
