An experience I will always remember
City life . Culture . Student life . Travel . UncategorizedIt feels weird writing my last blog post. To me, my last blogpost feels like the end of my semester abroad. The last few months felt like a rollercoaster. Here is what happened.
When I first applied to do a minor abroad, I never thought it would actually happen. The idea to go abroad and meet new people from over the whole world sounded exciting to me but being alone in a new environment without anyone I know, felt scary. After the paperwork and arrangements, the time came to move to München. With mixed feelings I left my family, boyfriend and friends behind and jumped into a new adventure in Germany.
My first day was the third of September. I applied for a German course that started earlier than the normal school year. I immediately regretted my decision when I saw that a lot of people knew each other from their home university and wanted to go back to The Netherlands. This, of course, was not an option. All exchange students where split up in different German groups and I met my German class. This is when my exchange time started. This first month was the most exhausting month in my life. I became really good friends with a girl from South Korea, Jenna, and a girl from Finland, Cosima. The three of us explored München and Germany together. Schloss Nymphenburg, Nürnberg, Octoberfest, pizza, the cinema, Aperol Spritz, parties and going to Prague. I am so happy that I chose to participate in the German course and meet a lot of new people.
After one month, I had to move out of my bungalow in Olympia Dorf. This meant that I had to find a room in München, while the real school semester started. This was really hard and stressful. Finally, I found an apartment in Maxvorstadt! Friends came to my room a lot, where we drank a lot of wine together and had interesting conversations. This was also the perfect place to invite my family and boyfriend to, where we went to dinner at Zeitgeist and 55Eleven. I felt more comfortable in München, I even feel like München is my second home.
I could have never imagined that this semester would be the best months of my life. Meeting people from all over the world, going to fun parties and being really social every day. This semester turned out to be more educational and fun than I ever imagined. I learned so much about myself and people with different cultures. I will never forget this part of my life, I will always carry it with me.
