Once A Warrior…
AuthorsServus everyone! My name is Daria, but I never let people call me that — I go by Dasha. I was born on a snowy day, 11.11.1997, in Moscow, Russia. The most important thing to know about me is that I have been playing tennis as long as I remember myself. Before I left home to go to the United States at 17 years old, I have already traveled to tennis tournaments in over 20 countries in Europe. Then I went to Detroit, Michigan, to study and play tennis for Wayne State University on an athletic scholarship. These were the best four years of my life, even though my parents weren’t so keen on the fact that their daughter went to live in a former “ghost city” of the United States. But Detroit taught me to never give up, no matter how low you fall — I love that city so dearly, and all the precious memories and people that are connected to it. This year in May I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and German.
Nevertheless, I have dreamed about living in Munich ever since I have started learning German, which was in 7th grade. Having been an FC Bayern fan since I was a child is also a huge booster for that. My dream job is to be a sideline sports reporter or a TV hostess at Sky Sports. That’s why I chose to continue my studies here, and I am so glad I did — it feels like every day I am a tiny step closer to making my dream come true.
“Gib alles, nur nicht auf” is my favorite quote in German, or in any other language — it keeps me going during hard times, especially in 2019. I got pretty lucky, I got an opportunity to be an exchange student at LMU this year by accident, and I am planning on sticking around for as long as possible — I will be applying to a Master’s program here at IfKW in 2020. I hope that this year will prepare me for that, give me a better understanding of a German university system and of course, I hope to advance in my German and make valuable connections. I am currently working at a media agency Dentsu Aegis Network Germany as well.
As you can tell, I am very happy and thankful to be here and I am not going to take it for granted! I am looking forward to our classes and excursions, as well as time spent with my fellow exchange students!
