Me, Myself and I
AuthorsMy name is Laura. I am in my Junior Year of university at Wayne State University in Michigan, USA. I am half German and Argentinian but I haven’t lived in Germany since I was 5 years old. At home we speak German with my dad and Spanish with my mom, but since I have noticed that my German was slowly getting worst, I decided to come study in Germany. Last year, during a study abroad event I came across a program that offered a year in Munich and I jumped on the opportunity to be able to come live here. I have been here many times since my Grandmother lives in Darmstadt but I could not have imagined me falling in love with this country as much as I did. There were so many things I realized I missed about living in Europe again. Due to my dad’s job we moved around a lot; we have lived in Brazil, Germany, Spain, Italy and are now currently living in the US. There is just something about the European way of life that has always made me want to come back. The diversity of people, the food culture, the history, the architecture… is breathtaking. It just feels like home. The thing I am most excited about being here is the traveling. Everything is so close by, only a train ride away. There are so many cities I want to see, so many countries I have never visited before. I want this year to be productive and I want it to make a difference in my German but I also want this to be a year where I get to travel and experience a certain freedom, I don’t have back home. I don’t need a car to get around here, I have a job that is enough for me to not have to depend on my parents, and I can go anywhere I want with my German passport without restrictions. This allows me to have the fullest experience I could ask for here in Munich. I will do everything I can to make the most out of this once in a lifetime experience.
