Writing blog posts is literally my profession
Student life . UncategorizedIt’s funny that in German “getting to know” word sounds like “kennenlernen” – that is, “to know + to learn” … learn to know each other. Well, let’s learn?
From my name it is not immediately clear where I come from (spoiler: from Russia). My name is Anna Iurgenson, I am 20, and I am writing this post from my home in St. Petersburg.
My city is called “Venice of the North” and “the cultural capital of Russia” (my journalism teacher at school forbade this phrases, because this is a terrible cliché, but I think it is important to mention it here). In terms of the weather it is like London (rains !!!), in terms of the architecture – like Berlin, Paris and a little Prague. There are really many rivers here, almost like in Venice, and the Baltic Sea, like in Stockholm. My surname is Swedish, because my great-great-great-grandfather was a Swedish sailor. Once he came to Russia and then found a wife (I don’t know if this was the only wife, but …).
The coronavirus thwarted all my travel plans to Germany this semester, although international exchange was my main goal as a student. It will now be fully online. But I managed to participate in several shorter projects before. For example, exactly a year ago I was in Munich for a week with a team from my institute (see a photo from this time).
But now I’m trying to adjust my plans and come to terms with the new reality.
At a Russian institute, I am in my last year of undergraduate studies. Six months — and I will be a certified political scientist. Hopefully then my arguments will carry more weight while talking about Putin in the kitchen! So, in parallel with my studies at LMU and work, I am writing my thesis here in Russia. By the way, about work…
It would seem that a political scientist is doing in the IMKW? The answer is that for over 2.5 years I have been working as a content manager on social media. This work is a mix of journalism, copywriting, marketing and design. Back in high school, I studied journalism for 3 years and even had publications in the newspaper. And then I realized that now social networks and the Internet are a great place for development and work. And it also completely away from the office and on freelance! So writing blog posts is literally my profession. And I also run my own Instagram page, trying to make a beautiful visual. Here it is:
If you decide to chat with me, be sure: in about half an hour, I will definitely bring up one of my favorite topics: minimalism, urbanism or … dogs (I sincerely believe that I will be working as a zoo psychologist at 50). Apparently, my utopia is a city with low white-wooden houses, beautiful benches, dog playgrounds in every yard and bike paths. Perfect.
So far, of all this, I only have my minimalist room. But okay, this is just the beginning.
I haven’t written any posts about myself for a long time, mostly for clients! So I don’t even know what to write more. I think this is not my last post here, so we’ll definitely get to know each other better through texts and words (and this is actually a great way to get to know a person!)
Glad to meet everyone who has read this. And I hope the feeling’s mutual! 🙂
