Introduction post
AuthorsHi! I’m Elsa, a French Erasmus student who will be living in Munich for the next few months. I come from a small village near Brest in Brittany, but I’m studying foreign languages & sustainable development in Normandy, in the city of Caen. Both cities are close to the sea – the Atlantic Ocean for Brest, the English Channel for Caen. That explains my attachment to the sea. I have already practised some water sports like sailing or surfing, I like doing long walks along the coastal paths, and also having a good time and sunbathing on the beach of course!
So why did I decide to come to Munich, where there is no sea? There are several explanations to that choice. First, I wanted to go to Germany. I have already been to Germany on a school trip eight years ago, in Hamburg and in Bremen. I really liked those cities and the country in general, so I’ve been wanting to come back to Germany for some time. Moreover, I would like to improve my German language skills, and everybody knows that the best way to do so is to immerse oneself in the culture and speak with native speakers. Finally, I chose Munich because I wanted to experience life in one of the biggest cities in Germany, and even in Europe. It is a unique experience for me who has lived most of my life in a small village. I’ve already had the opportunity to discover the city, its monuments and its cosmopolitan atmosphere during the last few weeks.
As mentionned earlier, I expect to improve my language skills, in German as well as in English. From an academic point of view, I aim to learn many things thanks to my courses in the fields of communication and interculturality. It will complete my knowledge acquired during my studies in France, but also bring me new knowledge from a German perspective. I also want to discover the city and Bavaria in general, and meet new people from all over the world.
All the people I know who have done an Erasmus mobility say that it was the best experience of their lives, so I hope that it will be the same for me! Of course it will be different considering the special situation we have all been living in for the past year. Nevertheless, I am really glad I could come all the way to Munich, experience life in the city and meet new people!
I will write posts about the life of an Erasmus student during the whole summer semester, hope you will like it!
