Rejecting the Polarized Perceptions: My View on Press Freedom in China
AuthorsIn fact, the idea of freedom of the press in China sprouted very early. In the process of defending the country and fighting for national sovereignty, the Chinese Communist Party has been adhering to the idea of freedom of the press.
I learned a lot about Western press freedom ideas, such as those of Milton and others, through my studies. But I do not agree with the polarized perceptions of press freedom in China and the West internationally today. Because in my eyes, each country has its own unique national conditions. I believe that freedom of the press is not an unlimited freedom, but certainly within certain limits. Therefore, I think each country’s idea of press freedom has its own respectable points.
In China, with the rapid development of new media, most ordinary people have the opportunity to have their voices heard on the Internet. However, the Internet is not a place outside the law. While exercising freedom of the press, we must abide by the relevant regulations to maintain a good Internet ecological environment.
I believe that as China’s international communications power rises, there will be a more resilient press freedom.
