Bis Später München
Authors . City life . Student life13 – the days I have left until my flight back home.
When Scandinavian Airlines will help me fly home from Munich to Copenhagen to my loved ones on Valentine’s day. I know – cheesy right?
My stay in Munich started with a bang. Arriving at the airport on October 2nd, waiting for hours on my landlord not knowing what will happen next. I still remember the exciting feeling and nervosity as it was yesterday. Thinking back, I don’t know what surprised me most about Munich. Whether everything is closed on Sundays and the amazing selection of fresh bread in the supermarkets.
I arrived just in time to make it to the last day of Oktoberfest. Thinking back on it, it feels like years ago, but times fly by. I am beyond grateful for all the friends and memories I’ve created during these past few months. Who knew that bonding over an insanely big Breze was a thing? That was for sure not on my bucket list.
Munich has shown its best sides to me. From a warm and sunny October and November to a cold and snowy December and January. The cosy Christmas markets with snowflakes and hot drinks in one hand. Or the cold windy runs with the running club at Theresienwiese – a real contrast compared to tents filled with drunk Germans during Oktoberfest. But I must say I appreciate them all equally.
Munich has given me a lot of love. Not only have I experienced Munich through my running shoes but I have also enjoyed it. Actually, I think that the Bavarian air made me 100 times stronger and faster – I hope that you all will cross your fingers for me during my half marathon in Gothenburg in May.
The thing I will miss the most is the weekend trips, including hiking trips to Tegernsee, museum visits, brunching in town, a trip to Cologne and a skiing trip to St Anton in the Austrian alps. This is something that I will try to bring with me home. To appreciate all the things that are just behind the corner, but you’re maybe a little bit too lazy to discover in your home country, at least I am. Munich has taught me to appreciate what I have. To be thankful for my life in Sweden, and that’s maybe one of the most important lessons that I will bring with me further on in life.
What I am looking forward to most is COFFEE. I’m sorry, but the german coffee has nothing on the Scandinavian. So, I’m looking forward to sunny walks in Copenhagen with a cappuccino with oat milk in one hand and a Swedish cinnamon bun in the other. And maybe, but only maybe, I will bring one krapfen with me while leaving Germany…
Now it’s time for me to soon head back home. And I can’t wait to finally be reunited with my boyfriend, family, friends and finish my Bachelor’s degree in June. I’m looking forward to what the future holds – maybe we’ll see each other again?
Danke für alles. Bis später!
München, Ich liebe dich.
