Bye for now
Authors . Student life . TravelGoodbye my dearest readers and Munich
This is the first time that I am an exchange student, and this semester is the most memorable experience in my life as I came out of my comfort zone, traveled a lot, and did several things that I had never done before. I still remember the first day that I arrived in Munich like it was yesterday. But unfortunately, time flies. I have to go back to my home.
Throwback to when I prepared myself and stuff before I came to Munich, I was really excited about how my next 4 months in foreign country would be. On the first day that me and my friends were in Munich, we faced a big problem that was flight delay. But we had to get the keys at our accommodation in the office hours. So we could not make it to receive the keys. This means we did not have accommodation for our first night. Then, we decided to book the hotel immediately. At first we were stressed out because it was our first step to live in Munich and here was very new for us. Finally, we got our room’s key the next day.
But that was not all, I had a plan to go to Switzerland after the day that I got my key. So I had to buy many things for my room, do big cleaning, and pack my luggage for the Switzerland trip. I went to Switzerland by train. And I can tell you that Switzerland is such a lovely country that makes me impressed, especially the view and local people. Moreover, I found out about the brand called Ovomaltine which all the products are delicious. I love this brand so much. Munich also has this brand but not all the products. Switzerland was the first country for me to experience snow. In the future, if I have an opportunity, I will definitely go back there.
Orientation day, the first day that I met and knew everyone. Everyone is very nice and friendly. Besides, I was so thankful for the warm welcome. For the first week of studying until now, I really like the teaching style and contents that LMU teachers provided. This can help me to gain more knowledge and make me more interested in the communication field.
My daily routine is mostly going to buy groceries for cooking. Me and my friends enjoy cooking and eating together, so we did a lot of menus. We have one menu that we are proud to present that is “Bua Loy” which is rice balls in flower shape in coconut milk. This Thai dessert is so easy to cook but just takes quite a long time to do. We needed to be patient but it was worth it. It is very delicious and similar to the authentic taste in Thailand. Another activity apart from cooking and eating is going to Olympiapark. Just sitting and chilling is relaxing and healing from my bad day.
When me and my friends have free days that we do not have classes, we planned to travel outside Germany. We went to Paris, Milan, Como, Varenna, Barcelona, Prague, Budapest, Vienna, and Hallstatt. I thought that every city that I went to have something special that I like in different parts.
For example, Paris has beautiful and stunning architecture, also the best dessert.
Milan has a breathtaking tourist attraction which is ‘Duomo Di Milano’. It is such a fine work that seems unreal. Moreover, there is a cute cafe and delicious ice-cream.
Como has an ice-cream shop called “Gelateria Lariana” that is very cheap and tasty, and staff gave a lot of amount of ice-cream per cone.
Although Varenna is the city that I went to by coincidence, I fall in love with the view of this city.
For Barcelona, architecture and building are unique, and they give me a weird feeling of terror but want to look more in their details. Barcelona got my heart for its food, especially seafood that is so fresh.
Prague is a cute and beautiful city at the same time whether I look anywhere. Moreover, in the night time this city is more and more beautiful.
Budapest is a city where you should go out and spend time at night to look at the city view. When Budapest is in the dark, the city turns into a golden city.
Vienna is the next stop that has several beautiful palaces.
And the last one, Hallstatt is my most favorite city right now. The scenery is incredible as this city is the inspiration for Frozen. This made me feel like “Am I in the Frozen?”. I wish I can go to Hallstatt again in the winter as I think it will be more amazing and stunning.
Everytime I came back to Munich after the trip. Munich makes me feel like home which is safe and comfortable. Moreover, I also have my comfort restaurant and ice-cream shop that me and my Thai friends really like to go to. We go there very often. The restaurant that I mentioned is Yumira which is Korean BBQ. And the ice-cream shop is Crazy Ice Cream Maker. The flavor of pistachio and yogurt mandarin are the best.
I would say that this exchange semester is not just my study life in Munich, Germany, but it is my 4 months that I spent in Europe. I learnt to adapt myself to stay in Munich. Now, everything is settled, but it is time to go home. I am so happy and grateful. I do not regret my choice that I chose to come here. Even though I was struggling in the beginning of my journey in Munich, I want to say thank you to all of my Thai friends, friends, and people who I met here that helped me go through many things.
Goodbye Munich until we meet again.
