Hi there!
Culture . Student life“You’re moving to Munich? That’s so close to Zurich. That doesn’t count as an exchange.” That’s the reaction I kept getting this summer when I told people about my plans. So, let me explain.
I’m Audrey, a Swiss student. But for my last semester in my Master’s program, I decided to change things up and seek a new academic adventure in Munich. You may be asking yourself, “Why Munich?”
I chose Munich for my last semester because I also have the opportunity to develop professionally here. In parallel to my studies, I am working for an international strategy consultancy that is also based here in Munich. This opportunity is what brought me here. I didn’t want to miss the chance to broaden my horizons and gain a new perspective. When I discovered that Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) was a perfect fit for my degree program, the decision was clear. Next stop: Munich.
Now, Munich and Zurich are geographically quite close to each other, only four hours by train to be exact. But over the past few days, I’ve realized that Munich is definitely not the same as Zurich. It has its own charm and character. I’m looking forward to gaining new experiences and knowledge because, in my opinion, exchange programs have benefits regardless of how far they are from your home university.
Now, more about myself. As I mentioned earlier, I work alongside my studies, also here in Munich. This dual commitment helps me see the world through multiple lenses. My bachelor’s degree is in communications with a minor in law. For my master’s degree, I chose strategic communications and management. This semester, in addition to taking classes, I am working on my master’s thesis, which is due in less than a month. Therefore, pls keep your fingers crossed for me. The thesis is about sustainability communication in Swiss companies.
Growing up in Switzerland, I developed a deep connection with nature. I spent my weekends hiking or biking in the Swiss mountains. Later, I was involved in competitive sports, which took me to track and field competitions and training sessions all over Switzerland. After closing that chapter, I discovered other passions that I continue to pursue. In the summer, I enjoy riding road bikes and hiking. In winter, on the other hand, I’m out on the cross-country trails or carving down the slopes.
My multicultural family background has instilled in me a deep appreciation for diversity and a love of travel. These experiences have enriched my life in many ways and fostered both personal growth and a more reflective perspective. After my stay in Munich, I would like to get a comprehensive picture of the city that goes beyond the surface. I hope to have such experiences in Munich as well, to immerse myself in the culture, learn from its history, and connect with its people. Just as traveling has broadened my horizons in the past, I expect the same from my time here in Munich.
