From Madrid’s Heart to Munich’s Soul
AuthorsGood morning, afternoons, and nights. I am Laura Calzón Sancho, born in Alcalá de Henares, a beautiful city in the province of Madrid, a UNESCO World Heritage city, full of charm and life. My daily life takes place in Madrid, the capital of Spain, a fast-paced city, always bustling with people, plans, and atmosphere. Madrileños hold a special affection for Madrid, and those born in the city are colloquially referred to as “gatos.” It’s a city full of contrasts and multiculturalism, a city that deserves to be visited both during the day and at night, as it never loses its charm at any time.
In my home university, I study journalism and audiovisual communication. Probably my favorite part is the audiovisual aspect. Television, radio, and new audiovisual media are what I like most about my career, and I hope to dedicate myself to it. Additionally, during these years in Spain, I have studied dramatic arts. I would love to be an actress, and of course, I will continue studying acting upon my return.
Throughout my life, I have lived in Spain, but I have always loved to travel and get to know other cultures. Several times I have done summer exchanges in other countries and have always loved it. In university, when I saw the option of Erasmus, I decided I had to seize the opportunity. When I looked at the list of possible destinations, Munich caught my attention. I wanted to go to a big city, and I have always liked German culture. This first month that I have been here has confirmed that choosing Munich was a good decision. Another reason I chose it was the ease of traveling from Germany. It’s a city rich in culture, beer, and full of students from all over the world.
Regarding this semester, my main objectives are to meet people, travel, and learn. I couldn’t be happier to have met people from different countries and cultures. Since I arrived here, I haven’t stopped learning and discovering new interests, skills, places, and people. Additionally, I have been able to use these past weeks to explore Prague.
In the coming months, there are plans for a trip to Berlin and another to Amsterdam. I am totally excited to visit Berlin, in a very special sense, I have always loved that city. It is also impossible to live in Munich for the first time and not look forward to experiencing Christmas here. Everyone speaks wonders of the Christmas markets and the city’s decorations. Christmas will also be a great excuse to return to Spain and celebrate the New Year with family and friends. In the coming months, I look forward to the visits of my partner, best friend, and mother. I can’t wait to show them the city and hope they fall in love with it as much as I have.
