A semester in Munich soon to be forgotten
Student life . TravelSo, somehow six months in Munich have now passed and I’m about to pack my bags and head back home. But packing everything up has proved to be difficult, as I’m apparently really bad at goodbyes. Although, I’m happy to realize that my bags are now filled to the brim. I’m not talking about beer mugs and Christmas ornaments – although they also take up quite some space. I am talking about all the experiences I have collected throughout the semester.
I can now confidently say that I’m like a local navigating Munich. Some would say I’m wrong, BUT it’s been a while since I have messed up in the U-Bahn now. Kind of. Well, one thing I can say for certain, is that there aren’t many Italian restaurants left in the city that I haven’t visited. I guess that’s how it goes when you hang out with a bunch of Italians. And I’m not complaining. So, it’s honestly not large quantities of bratkartoffeln and spätzle that I have consumed. Instead, I have been drinking Soju and Makgeolli, eating real French crepes (need I mention the salty crepes, Julie?), and eating tons of homemade pasta and risotto (thanks to you and your kitchen, Giada!).
I was honestly close to giving up my plan on an exchange semester, as it didn’t seem like the right time for me. But big ops to me in the past for sticking it out and actually deciding to leave. Otherwise, I would have never met this sick bunch of people who I have shared all my experiences with.
To you five f*ckers, I would like to say thanks. Thank you for introducing me to yourselves, thank you for making me laugh way too much, for telling me about your home countries, for listening to me babble about Queen Margrethe. Thank you for all the beer, for the good fun in the snow, for the best nights at Cabane Bar, and thank you for keeping up with Deutsche Bahn and making it to Berlin with me. Seems odd to just return to my “old” life after these months in Munich, as they have proven to be some of the best times of my life.
So here’s to Munich – a city that became my temporary home filled with unforgettable experiences and a warm embrace of new friends. Prost to the memories made and to Julie, Giada, Sua, Rebecca, and Riccardo.
