Cheers to Munich: A chapter concludes, another unfolds
Authors . City life . Society . Student lifeHello there!
Time flies, and I find myself writing my final post here with a mix of nostalgia and excitement. The journey from familiar Zurich to the vibrant corners of Munich has been a true rollercoaster.
Let’s rewind a bit.
When I first mentioned that Munich would be my exchange destination, many doubted it because of its proximity to Zurich. Some assumed that I wouldn’t be able to celebrate the same experiences and successes in a country that somewhat resembles my home. However, over the months, Munich unfolded in ways I hadn’t expected. The city became more than just an exchange destination for my academic activities; it became a little home where I could continue to develop professionally, personally, and academically.
The balancing act between studying at LMU, taking an exam in Zurich, submitting my master’s thesis in December, and defending it in January has been a bit intense. But hey, no complaints – it was definitely worth it.
The academic tasks were challenging, but they opened doors to a wealth of knowledge and experiences that I wouldn’t trade for anything. Consequently, I look back on the past few months with joy, pride, and satisfaction.
Although I’ve completed my master’s degree thanks to this exchange semester at LMU, I won’t be packing my bags just yet. Instead, I’m staying in Munich because, come March, I’ll be working for three months at BMW in their headquarters in consulting. Yes, the city has more adventures in store for me, and I’m pretty excited about it. As I prepare for the BMW stint, I can’t help but reflect on how this exchange semester has also shaped my personal journey.
The office experience at Bain and the academic routine at LMU were not just about work; I met some fantastic people who became friends. And that’s one of the best takeaways from this Munich escapade. The Christmas season in Munich, with its charming Christmas markets and historical allure, wouldn’t have been the same without the people who made it my new home away from Zurich. When I think back on these months, it’s the shared moments, the late-night study sessions, and the spontaneous weekend getaways that stand out the most.
People have not only shown me many things and provided new experiences or insights, but they have also contributed to making me feel at home. Exploring nature and engaging in sports activities with them made me feel like I was a piece of home.
Therefore, I am thrilled to say from the bottom of my heart: It was more than worth it.
Cheers to Munich, to new beginnings, and to what comes next.
