Prost, Munich !
Authors . Student life . TravelAfter a second semester in Munich, I am finally returning home at the end of July. It was very interesting to see how different the winter and summer semesters were. Even though I explored Munich, its museums and its christmas markets, the mood of the city totally switched when I came back in April : instead of christmas markets were biergartens, and instead of visiting museums I’m now enjoying swimming in the river crossing the Englischer Garten. Combined to the city, my mood also switched, and instead of constantly going out with my unhinged group of friends which was a ton of fun, I’m now enjoying the chill life with a close friend I made, studying near Starnberger See between two swims, thrifting, grabbing coffee, assisting to a jazz concert or a museum exhibition opening.
Our secret spot at Starnberger See / Bahnwärter Thiel not only being the best techno club but transforming into a flea market or a jazz session ?
I also feel like a real Munich inhabitant, balancing my life between the student job I got, studying for exams and going out. A couple of friends came to visit me, allowing me to become a tour guide for a couple (unfortunately rainy) days. It was really nice to make my friends discover where I lived for the last months. I even rented a bike like a real German, allowing me to explore around and considerably reducing my travel time to the grocery shop.
I discovered this castle was only 20 minutes by bike from my place ! / Another great castle (Neuschwanstein) I finally visited
If someone asked me if it’s better to do your Erasmus in the winter or summer semester, I could absolutely not respond to it as the city transforms so much. But maybe it’s just because of the personal experience I had last semester and not because of the city in itself. In this case, I’ll say that the summer semester is more tranquil and peaceful (if you don’t pay attention to the euro cup supporters). The best response I’ll have is to do it an entire year because I swear that one semester goes SO fast, you just adapted and met people that you already have to go back.
It’s a real goodbye this time, I have no idea if I’ll come back to Munich one day, but I want to thank this city for the great time I had here and all the people I met. I will end it as I started in October, Prost !
