Trip to Augsburg

On a sunny Saturday in July, I went on a day trip to Augsburg as part of a Servicepacket event. Augsburg is a city in Bavaria, about an hour from Munich by local train. A small group of about 10 people gathered at Munich Central Station, and we set off together. After arriving, it took about 20 minutes on foot from Augsburg Central Station to the city center. Perhaps because both cities are in Bavaria, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of familiarity with Munich.
As the third-largest city in Bavaria, after Munich and Nuremberg, Augsburg holds historical significance as the site of the Peace of Augsburg in 1555. This agreement between Lutherans and Catholics recognized each other’s freedom of faith, leaving a lasting mark on world history. Also, Augsburg is home to the well-known football club FC Augsburg.
My favorite spot in Augsburg was a small garden where people can freely read books and relax. If it hadn’t been a group guided tour, I would have stayed there for an hour just chilling! But just watching people enjoy their time there made me feel relaxed.
There was also a garden where visitors are allowed to pick plants they need. Additionally, if you ask the gardener to plant something specific, they will purchase it and grow it in the garden. Hearing this, I couldn’t help but wonder about the potential for a “tragedy of the commons” situation.
The tour ended in a large square. I usually prefer traveling alone or with friends, so this was my first time participating in a Servicepacket event. It turned out to be much better than I expected. I enjoyed a guided tour of Augsburg, focusing on the city’s core areas and discovering hidden spots and the stories behind them. Now that I know so much about Augsburg, I’ve decided to visit again later to relive the memories.
