What to say about me, that is a question. Hello, my name is Ollie, I am 21 years old, from the small village of Hildenborough, situated in the county of Kent, England. I was born and raised there, until the adventure of turning 18 happened. With secondary school finishing, it unleashed the opportunity to travel, explore and attend university.
From the ages of 18-19, I took the option of taking a gap year, in which I worked for half of the year, then solo travelled to Thailand and further onto Bali after that. Here, unfortunately for the bank account but fortunately for me, I caught the travel bug. So when planning on my application for university, I opted for a study abroad. This gave me the option to further explore and immerse myself into another countries culture for a year.
So why Munich? For me it stemmed from Thailand. I met two of my best mates, who where from Munich, Germany, and they talked highly of it. Also there is amazing beer, which as a English man, you can never say no to a lovely pint. The Bavarian culture and food also fascinated me from the stories that my friends told me. Also, I love hiking and exploring places, which bodes well with the placement of Germany; as it is located in the centre of Europe and is near a plethora of mountain ranges. Also, as an avid football fan, the Allianz Arena is one of the European temples for football.
There was also another reason for doing an ERASMUS exchange programme, and that was due to the course that I am doing. I study at the University of Leicester, enrolled as a Media and Communications undergraduate. Communications is a massive aspect of the media world; whether that is by reporting news, consuming content, conversing with people worldwide etc. The opportunity of studying with a year abroad would therefore, boost my connectivity within the subject, as well as gauging on an international perspective on media consumption and the views and ideologies other cultures have on the world.
