A german swede

Servus! My name is Fleur and I’m an Erasmus student from Sweden. My hometown is in Scania, the southern part of Sweden, where the headland is framed by oceans and long white beaches. If you live in the northern part of Sweden the summers are long and the winters are cold, but in Scania the weather is quite similar to the weather in Munich.
Why did I choose Munich? Going to Munich is a great opportunity to improve my german and also revisit memories of my childhood. I was born in Berlin but moved with my parent to Sweden right after starting grundschule. Because of my parents two nationalities, I was brought up in a bilingual home where holidays are celebrated with a multicultural touch. Munich geographic location in Europe is also one of the reasons why I choose to study here, moreover it also enables me to visit adjacent countries and try out some railway traveling. I’m a big nature lover and enjoy going skiing, so choosing a city that is close to hiking trails and alpine slopes was a no brainer for me.
Any expectations? At LMU I hope to improve my skills in journalistic practices, learn more about the role of (mis)disinformation in a global context and get a better understanding of the Bavarian media institutions. I believe misinformation is one of the biggest threats to the democratic world and I feel a need to improve my knowledge in that area. I also want to visit the many museums the city has to offer, maybe listen to techno and eat butterbrezel for breakfast. Besides fulfilling my studies I hope to learn more about my personal and professional interests for the future, meet international- and german students, create new friendships and overcome my dislike of beer…
