Media School Bayern and its potential

The Media School Bayern is one of a kind schools in Bavaria, being a non-profit educational institution and offering fully free training in journalistic practices, audio and video editing and radio broadcasting. Created in 1995, the institution has its roots in both Munich and Nuremberg and over time became the foundation to two student broadcasting projects, M94.5 and max neo.

Over the last three decades, Media School has trained over 5000 young individuals, many of whom work currently in the German media sphere. The school plays an important role in media education for young people, allowing potential talent to evolve through real life practice, such as producing and broadcasting. A special place also holds the radio station M94.5, which introduces the professional world through actual live broadcasting and live streaming. It also serves as a base to students who have a short-term internship in the Media School Bayern.

The field trip taught the group, the school is diverse, inclusive and everybody learns during the process. Therefore, there is not much pressure on the people, students learn by actually doing, errors are part of the training but additionally, it all could feel a bit unorganized and chaotic.

It is helpful to also think about the institutions that were visited previously. All of them should be reviewed individually and analysed based also on their specific criteria. Needless to say, all of them have a story to tell and a target group to reach, in education, science or media environment.

The field trips provided inspiration, reflection on the potential of the institutions and their future. If not, there was still a lesson to take home.
