The Danish Girl
AuthorsCecilie is my name. Like every third girl in Denmark. I was actually going to be named Sarah, but apparently I did not look like ”a Sarah”, when I arrived into this world. I was also at some point going to be named Andreas, but I did not look like ”an Andreas” either. Maybe it was something about my hair.
I like to travel so much, but often I find myself in a position without any money to do so. That may be linked with the fact, that I also really like to go out to party, to go out to eat, to go out to eat well and to go out to eat A LOT. I am glad, that I got the opportunity to go abroad to study as an Erasmus student. I have visited a lot of great cities all over Europe but never Munich. Honestly, I did not have a lot of expectations about this city to begin with. I took a chance. I am glad, that I took that chance. Munich is wunderbar.
My friends and family are important to me. In general, I just like being around people. I believe I am a ”safety-junkie”. It does not sound that good in English, because it has been translated directly from Danish. In Denmark that expression makes a lot of sense. Trust me.
Denmark. Do you know it? It is kind of small and it consists mainly of islands, except for the place I live, which is a piece of land connected to Germany. That piece of land is called Jutland. If you have seen it on a map, it looks like a face. Not a pretty one but definitely a face. If you have not seen Denmark – and Jutland – on a map before, I do not blame you. You will need a really good eyesight.
Denmark suits me well. It is tiny, but it is beautiful. And we have LEGO. We also have H.C. Anderson. If you don’t know him that is okay. We have LEGO. We also have sarcasm and irony and a lot of it. I like Danish humour, but sometimes my humour is being misunderstood in any other places than Denmark. A prime example of ‘clash of cultures’. Please do not hate me, if you do not get my jokes. I am not a bitch, I am just “verbally clumsy”. I will strive to improve.
I like sports and I am often being labelled a tomboy. I think I like it. I play loads of football and I cheer for Liverpool F.C. Did you know they made it to the final of Champions League 2019? I am over the moon. My friend Mathilde and I have watched every match religiously, since we arrived in Munich. At our local sports bar, we give hive-fives to stranger Germans whenever Liverpool scores or win. I like that casual way of meeting new people. I love how sports can bring people closer (Sorry for the corny “slogan-like” sentence).
I also like to talk, to debate and to make conversations. Perhaps you have already guessed that by reading this post. I mean, I could go on forever (what a narcissist). But now it is definitely time to wrap this up.
I hope you have enjoyed getting to know a little bit about a Danish girl. I know this blogpost seemed like nonsense to read, but at least it was honest. Thank you for spending your precious time on this.
Cecilie
