Chang’s Dream Job😊
AuthorsCareer planning is extremely important for one’s development. And I have been exploring my interests to choose the career I most prefer.
Since my postgraduate studies, my goal has become clearer and clearer – I want to become a university teacher. There are a few main reasons for this. Firstly, I love the atmosphere on campus and enjoy teaching and doing research here. If I can always communicate and interact with youthful university students, I think I will always remain young and enterprising. Secondly, I love learning and research. To a certain extent, I think I’m good at it. To become a university teacher, you have to have a PhD. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain a love of learning over time. I am quite good at this. Thirdly, I think there is a certain amount of freedom in this career. I used to intern in media and advertising agencies, but really couldn’t get used to the work life of sitting in an office all day. This kind of 9 to 5 job doesn’t make sense to me and I feel that there are more possibilities in my life. Isn’t life all about the pursuit of love and freedom?
In order to realise my career ambitions, I feel that I have a lot of work to do at the moment, and perhaps it will take many more years. Firstly, I need to seriously complete my current studies at Masters level. In the process, I need to gain experience and improve myself by observing the teaching and research status of my professors. Most things in this world require persistence and accumulation, so I feel that spending more energy will improve my general skills. Secondly, I want to find an area of research that I am passionate about. At the moment I am interested in many topics, but I need to find my expertise in them. A momentary interest is far from enough, and I need to study and output over a longer period of time.
In China, it is common for young people to feel anxious and worried about their future. But for me, I have been exploring my interests during the learning process. My career choice was actually slowly settled in my normal study life. Once you have a clear goal in mind, you just have to keep moving towards it. Therefore, I believe I can slowly achieve my goals. Hopefully in the future I can become a good university teacher! ^^
