January Girl in Munich <3
AuthorsHi there! I’m Janny, a girl from Thailand who is 21 years old. I was given this name by my older sister because I was born in January. In that case, my sister would give me the names “Febby” or “Marchy,” depending on whether I was born in February or March. I guess. Actually, My name is Premikar, a Thai name that means “one who always finds happiness. However, since our Thai names are so long and difficult to pronounce, we all have nicknames to make calling each other easier.
Even though Thailand consists of 77 provinces, I have been living in Bangkok, a capital city of Thailand, that has the longest name as everyone knows in our first class! Apart from that, my home country also has a wide variety of delectable food, which can easily be found. If you get the chance to experience Thai food or visit Thailand, one of the Thai foods that I would like to recommend is “Pad Kra Pao,” which is meat stir-fried with Thai holy basil and garlic.
Recently, I’m a communication management bachelor’s student at Chulalongkorn University. In my entire life, this is my first time as an exchange student that makes me so excited to be here. You might be curious why I chose Munich. The following are some of the reasons that led me to choose LMU.
- I want to travel throughout European nations, such as Switzerland, France, Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Spain, that could scope the university that I want to enroll in an exchange program. Therefore, my first trip after arriving in Munich for 2 days was Switzerland. And, it was a wonderful experience for me witnessing snowfall for the first time because it is always summer in my own country.
- When I looked up each university on my list, LMU has the highest ranking, which is placed 33rd worldwide.
After 3 weeks of living in Munich, I realize that it is challenging for an Asian who doesn’t speak German to fit into German culture. Fortunately, I wasn’t confronted with these difficult circumstances alone because I came here with my friends. Most shocking difference between Thailand and Germany to me is the opening time of the store. The majority of stores in Thailand are open everyday and into the night. On my first Sunday in Germany, I went to the nearby EDEKA store to buy some ingredients to make my breakfast, but it was closed! At that time, I zoned out and didn’t know what to do in front of the store, so I scrolled through the food delivery app instead. Nevertheless, most restaurants were also closed. Thus, I’m hoping that this semester will be filled with getting to know new people and learning about European culture, especially German. Moreover, I would like to make people who I meet during my exchange period know more about Thailand and I ensure that they may fall in love with my country!
As I mentioned earlier, I intend to visit numerous European cities. I therefore have planned to travel to Paris for the middle of May. I’m hoping to have the same good time on this trip as I did in Switzerland
And now, I believe that through reading this blog, you guys will know a little bit more about me and enjoy getting to know me.
