My thoughts on Mediaschool Bayern and its role in the Media Environment

Uncategorized

A month ago, we went on a field trip to Mediaschool Bayern and we got to see this media press house, explaining to us their process on how they handled stuff like their podcasts, their livestreams and anything else related to media and such.

They’re a non-profit organization that specializes in ensuring opportunities and job experiences for younger germans that are interested in engaging with the media environment in Germany: they can work on podcasts, on livestreams, engage in radio shows and allow any and all creative liberties from young people thanks to their lax and low pressure environment, emphasizing the ability to express as freely as they can.

This model in of itself feels less like something done for actual journalism and more for something like online content creation: I can see myself use a similar form of environment if I were to produce videos on Youtube, short form content on TikTok and stuff like livestreams and podcasts on Twitch, all of which are able to give the creator a lot of leeway, freedom and creative liberty that lets them make any projects that they desire, something that I feel isn’t really that common in a journalistic newsroom, an environment that has to follow specific guidelines in order to achieve its goals.

Despite that, I feel as if this organization is quite important for the development and interaction of young people in the world of media, especially here in Germany: having a place and environment to let them learn how video editing works, how to create and manage shows, podcasts and so much more without any fear of repercussion is something that I feel is missing quite a lot in most job environments, especially in industries that want young people with at least 2 to 3 years of experience to their belt, something that would be really discouraging for those same young people that wish to get a job that helps them survive in this world that’s becoming harsher and harsher to live as the years go by.
