Behind the Scenes at Media School Bayern

Excursions . Germany . Media

Out of all our field trips, visiting Media School Bayern was the most eye-opening and enjoyable. From the moment we entered, it was clear that this is a place where students get to dive straight into media work and explore their interests in a hands-on way. The atmosphere was energetic and welcoming, giving the impression of a space where creativity is encouraged and mistakes are seen as part of learning.

One of the most memorable moments for me was our visit to the radio studio. We got to listen in on students producing live radio, which reminded me how valuable practical experience is in the media field. Inside the studio, it wasn’t just about learning technical skills, it became clear it was also about learning how to think on your feet, experiment, and adapt. The students appeared both professional and confident, while still keeping relaxed. Thinking back on my own studies, most of it has been theoretical and very general. While this provides a good foundation, it often leaves us students feeling uncertain when it’s time to enter the workforce. It can also be difficult to know what kind of work we want to do.

But Media School Bayern gave a very welcoming impression. They mainly operates as a non-profit, and while interns generally don’t get paid, some students still receive a small stipend. This setup allows students to focus fully on learning and gaining experience without the pressures of a commercial workplace. Another interesting aspect is the flexibility offered to interns. They can choose how much they want to work, which helps them balance practical training with their studies.

During our visit, we explored different rooms and saw the equipment the students work with, from cameras to podcast studios. It was fascinating to see how the school offers a full spectrum of media production, from audio-only projects to more complex film work. The immersive approach really helps students understand the different sides of media production to help them find their own niche.

The visit left a strong impression of a school that is not only educational but also inspiring. Media School Bayern gives students the tools, guidance, and space to grow creatively, emphasizing the importance of learning by doing. It’s the kind of place where students are supported in exploring their interests and stepping confidently toward a future career in media.
