A New Journey in Munich!

Uncategorized

Hallo! My name is Jing-Yun, you can also call me Angel. I am from Taiwan, but I spent my college years in Singapore. When it comes to my home country, Taiwan is a beautiful island known for its incredibly welcoming people, rich culture, and a night market food scene that is simply out of this world. However, living in Taipei and Singapore, the cities are always busy and fast-paced. Because of that, I’ve always been curious about and drawn to the slower pace of life and different cultures in Europe.

I am studying at the University of Birmingham Singapore campus. Major in International Business. As part of my bachelor’s, I went on an exchange at the UK campus last year. During the exchange, it was one of the happiest periods in my studying journey. That was my first time stepping into scenes I’d only ever scrolled past on my phone: the stunning architecture, the museums, the streets steeped in history. Besides the historical atmosphere, the slow and relaxed pace of life also attracts me. This incredible experience made me decide to come to Europe again for my second exchange.

So why Munich? As mentioned above, I was deeply attracted to Europe during my last exchange. That incredible experience in Europe left a lasting impression on me. It made me decide to come to Europe again for my second exchange, which brings me to Munich! Located in the middle of Europe, I can explore more places that I have never been, continue exploring this fascinating continent, and Munich feels like the perfect place to soak in more of that rich culture and beautiful history. Before I came, I did not really understand the joy of drinking beer, but over a month in Munich, I truly understand that grabbing a drink is the perfect way to quickly break the ice and bond with new friends, and I enjoy it now also. While I’m slowly finding my rhythm settle down in Munich, I feel like there are still so many hidden gems in this city just waiting to be explored!

As a business student, this is my first time taking a communication course. By the end of this semester, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of how media institutions operate and learn to express my ideas more effectively. Outside of the classroom, during these 3 months, I plan to explore Eastern Europe and other places I’ve never been to, to broaden my horizons and meet people from all over the world. Finally, I hope to pick up some basic German—at the very least, enough to order the food and beer by the end of my exchange!
