Munich Science Communication Lab
Authors . Media . UncategorizedScience communication is currently facing various challenges relating to the links between climate change and human health and trying to point out actions that need to be taken. MSCL plays a crucial role in addressing burning issues in the field of planetary health.
MSCL is a science communication lab dedicated to studying and improving the way science is communicated to society by focusing on evidence-based communication. Its collaboration with communication researcher, scientists like LMU, Media school Bayern, Deutsches museum among others aims to bring people together on a eye level to understand this science.
The health of humans depends on the vitality of our planet, however, the current climate and other environmental crisis threaten both our health and that of our planet. We are in a planetary crisis and the MSCL stresses that effective communication about these complex issues is urgently required as everyone is affected.
The Covid-19 pandemic showed that humans are willing to collaborate to solve health issues. Large scale societal behaviour change is possible. When talking about planetary health, we need more than facts and figures. Peoples emotions, building trust and listening is important and the MSCL aims to do so. It wants a space where people, scientists and researches can openly ask each other the critical questions about planetary health.
I find the MSCLs stress for co-creation very interesting. I admire their want to make science more communicative, more human, more collaborative. They are helping science become more understandable and more meaningful and I am intrigued to follow up with the progress and groth of the MSCL.
