THE FIRST PAGES OF AN UNWRITTEN JOURNEY
UncategorizedHello Munich,
I’m Sofia and I come from Italy. At twenty I decided to challenge myself and start a new chapter of my life in a different country. Over the past few years, I’ve been living between the sea and the mountains and now I feel ready for the energy of a big city!
SMALL UNIVERSITY, BIG CONNECTIONS
I’m currently studying Communication and Culture at the University of Bozen. It is a trilingual university, offering courses in German, English and Italian, which makes my studies both stimulating and rewarding.
Unibz is a small university situated in the hearth of the mountains in South Tyrol. It doesn’t matter if it’s winter or summer, this place always has something to offer: climbing, skiing, hiking, cycling and for the bravest ones, even bathing in lakes and rivers.
It’s a small university, but whit a wonderful community, that has grown thanks to the many events in which we attend and organize. This year, for instance, we participated to Euromaster in Vallendar and Royals in Maastricht. These are networking events that connect students from all over Europe, especially German-speaking students, and help you meet people both from other universities and your own. There is also an event organized by unibz students: Snowdays. This year I had the opportunity to be part of the team, and it was incredibly rewarding to see so many students enjoying something we had worked so hard to create. Among the universities that take part in these events, there is also LMU, and this is how I first heard about this university. That’s what you take home from these experiences: meaningful connections and unforgettable memories.

CURIOSITY AS A CALLING
When I was 8 years old, I watched a film with my mother about the Italian journalist Oriana Fallaci. From that moment, I had a dream: to become a journalist.
That’s why I chose to study communication for my bachelor’s degree and focused on languages during high school. Over the years, I realized how passionate I am about current events. I’m especially interested in politics, sports, and major events—things that are constantly evolving. I believe journalism allows you to be right in the middle of what is happening in the world.
ROOTS BETWEEN SALT AND NOSTALGIA
I grew up in a seaside town, and this has deeply influenced who I am. The sea, especially in winter, has given me a sense of melancholy and nostalgia which is hard to explain unless you’ve felt it yourself.
Now that I don’t live there anymore, I appreciate my hometown, Fano, much more. When I used to live there, I felt constrained by the city and its people, as if it were a small, close universe. But now, I love going back – especially in the summer or whenever I have free time.

FINDING MYSELF IN MUNICH
I’ve only been here for two weeks, but I already love this city, from its organization to its atmosphere. Munich is international, but at the same time it preserves its traditions – and that’s a perfect balance.
It’s the first time I’ve moved somewhere completely alone, so I am curious to see how I will manage it. At the same time, I’m excited, because I know this experience will help me grow and shape my personality in a positive way.
Last but not least I love languages, and this is the first time I can really practice them in my everyday life.
Ich hoffe, dass ich am Ende des Semesters fließend Deutsch sprechen kann.
Servus und Grüß Gott an alle, Leute!!
