Living and loving life in Munich

Germany . Student life . Travel . Uncategorized

Dearest gentle reader,

It seems that Munich has recently welcomed yet another hopeful student into its orderly embrace. One whose journey began on the first day of this month with equal parts of excitement and quiet uncertainty. The city, ever composed and quietly discerning, observes as this newcomer begins to find their place among its traditions and subtle daily rituals.

Forgive the dramatics. I think it is quite apparent that, in the meantime before the semester began, I may have spent a little too much time watching Bridgerton, haha.

Ahoj, my name is Ludmila and I came to Munich from my beautiful hometown in the Czech Republic. I was raised in Budweis, a place known for its beer culture, especially the Budweiser Budvar, so in a way, Munich already feels a little like home. I think there is something comforting in that familiar atmosphere: people gathering, enjoying good beer and appreciating traditions that bring them together.

My hometown will always have a special place in my heart because I have made some of my favourite memories there.

After I graduated from high school, I moved to Prague to study Marketing Communication and Public Relations at the Charles University. Prague quickly became a place I truly love. It is a city full of history, beautiful views, cute spots and endless opportunities – but to be fair also full of tourists. It is a city that never feels dull, where there is always something happening, whether it’s events, cafés, restaurants or simply the charm of walking through the streets.

Even though I found a home there, I have always wanted to experience living abroad, to step out of my comfort zone and see what life is like somewhere new. That is why I am so happy to now be here in Munich, experiencing a different environment, meeting new people, and embracing everything this city has to offer. I am also really looking forward to studying at the university here, experiencing a different style of teaching and seeing how student life compares to what I am used to in Prague.

I have been here for a couple of days now and I am already enjoying my time. I am starting to notice the joy in the little things:  casual walks, discovering new places, and those small everyday moments that somehow feel special in a new city. I am meeting people from all over the world, which makes the whole experience even more exciting and a little surreal at the same time. It already feels clear to me that this Erasmus exchange is exactly what I wanted, and maybe even what I needed at this point in my life.

Somehow I can feel that Munich will see one of the happiest versions of myself and I am excited for whatever this experience brings to me.
