Check, München! Now it’s your move ♔
AuthorsWe’re going to spend one semester together (as far as I‘m planning for now), so let me introduce myself to you!
That’s me… and Prague
My name is Sofie. I’m 21 and come from the lovely capital of the Czech Republic, Prague. Probably you have already heard about the city, so I’ll just mention briefly: it is a beautiful city with rich history, old architecture, spectacular views (see photos), great food (we mostly eat meat with sauces & dumplings) and famous beer. If you haven’t explored it yourself yet, you should definitely do so (as a bonus: Munich–Prague is only a 5 hour comfy bus ride).
Prague is also home of the Charles University. Maybe you have already heard about this one; it’s one of the oldest universities in Europe: it was established in the year 1348 by Charles IV, the king of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor. Being ranked as the best university in our country, it’s probably no surprise that I’ve always wished to study there – and I’m so happy to say that my dreams came true. I’m pursuing my studies in marketing communication and public relations at Faculty of Social Science; currently I’m in 4th semester of my bachelor studies. And thanks to my studies at Charles University I got the opportunity to take a part in Erasmus Exchange Program and study at LMU. I’m so happy to be here – and still amazed it is really happening.
Why Munich?
I’ve always felt excited to study abroad once, gain new experience and learn new language. Studying in Germany therefore sounded as a perfect challenge. LMU was my first and only choice: Munich is a busy and beautiful city with a huge student number (as what I was told by one friend of mine, a TUM student, whom I played at a chess tournament (…yes, chess is one of my biggest hobbies – I come from a chess family; besides that I also enjoy playing piano & jasmine tea!) in the Czech Republic 2 years ago… such a good influencer!) and LMU itself is ranked amongst the top universities in world; moreover, I especially liked the incredible offer of unique courses and their relation to practice and modern world topics.
Though, if someone would tell my younger version of me that I’d once study in Germany, I simply would not believe. I started studying German language as a second foreign language back at high school; beginnings were really hard for me there as the required level was higher than what my level was at that time (I was a complete beginner). Later then I managed to successfully do my final exams from German language – and now I am here taking also a few courses in German… It might sound like a cliché, but work hard and believe in your dreams – miracles do happen!
A few funny marketing-related practices I came across in Munich recently. Inspiration is everywhere… I chose well!
This semester…
As for my future plans, I want to spend as much time here as it’s possible. I’ve already visited 26 European countries, so if I’ll travel during my stay here, I’ll most likely explore the bavarian environment. I’m excited about visiting courses and getting better with my German language skills, so that I would be able to gain a language certificate at the end of my Erasmus stay – which could later enable me to do a Praktikum here in Munich. This city is just amazing.
Thank you for such a warm welcome, Munich. Let’s see what you bring. Servus, los geht’s!
